Data Integration for Indigenous Data Control and Energy Optimization

What is Awetza?
Awetza is an Indigenous demographic database that enables Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations to effectively track, manage, and analyze critical information and data.
Critical information and data are determined by each community or non-profit organization, but is typically comprised of:
-
Membership or participant demographics
-
Training and employment
-
Housing
-
Government and community programs
-
Reporting
-
Critical infrastructure
By effectively tracking, managing, and analyzing this information and data through Awetza, communities are better equipped to develop, execute, and manage new plans and strategies.
Awetza prioritizes data sovereignty to enable less reliance on outside consultants and build community capacity towards more effective and data-driven day-to-day operations.
Maximizing Community Impact: Integrating Awetza and JOBI to Empower Indigenous Communities & Organizations
To address emerging gaps and better meet community needs, retrofit projects can be linked to local labour pools, community plans, and programs using Awetza. This approach enhances social and economic impacts by integrating local knowledge, creating jobs, and supporting training opportunities within and beyond this project.
The integration of Awetza (Indigenous data management platform) and JOBI (energy management software) addresses capacity challenges in Indigenous communities and organizations by streamlining processes and enhancing decision-making:
-
Data Sovereignty: Empowering communities and organizations with access to their data reduces reliance on external consultants and strengthens decision-making independence.
-
Program tracking made simple: Awetza allows users to track their progress through the DRAI Program, showing clear phases, such as building submission, energy audits, and engineering projects.
-
Energy efficiency insights: Awetza connects with JOBI to monitor energy consumption and efficiency, increasing the likelihood of successful retrofits.
-
Simplified tools: Combining energy management into a single platform reduces the burden of managing multiple tools for housing, energy, and reporting.
-
Centralized information hub: Awetza and JOBI serve as a hub for communities to make informed decisions on retrofits while linking to other initiatives and local talent.
-
Integrated energy management: Adding an “Energy Management” module to Awetza’s infrastructure ensures retrofit data aligns with community and organizational plans
-
Community-centered design: By integrating energy management with other systems, the tool becomes more accessible and widely used.
Anticipated Outcomes of JOBI/Awetza Integration
The integration of Awetza and JOBI is expected to deliver key benefits, including:
-
Data sovereignty: Empowering communities and organizations to manage and own their data independently.
-
Centralized data management: A single platform to store all DRAI Program deliverables, such as utility data, energy audits, and engineering plans.
-
Community-centered links: Connecting retrofit projects with local socio-economic priorities, such as involving skilled labour in project execution.
-
Increased engagement: Greater adoption of energy management tools and active participation in energy management.
-
Enhanced energy planning: Development and execution of contextualized, community-specific energy management plans.
