Program Overview

Four Winds & Associates, with funding from Natural Resources Canada, manages a deep energy retrofit program to help Indigenous building owners in Alberta.

This program supports reducing energy costs, planning for the future, and accessing additional funding for building upgrades.

Indigenous communities and Indigenous non-profit organizations in Alberta can benefit from free energy assessments, energy management software, and engineering services for their commercial buildings.

What is the Green Buffalo DRAI Program?

Four Winds is proud to be one of thirteen (13) programs selected for the DRAI initiative nationwide, and one of only two Indigenous-led projects.

The Deep Retrofit Accelerator Initiative (DRAI) provides funding to organizations (i.e. “retrofit accelerators”) that help building owners in the development of deep retrofits in commercial, institutional, and mid- or high-rise multi-unit residential buildings in Canada (Government of Canada, 2024). Each program has distinctions to the others and is meant to serve a specific target market. Our program is specific to Indigenous owned and operated buildings within Alberta.
